Make The Word Personal

I have had several people reach out to me recently. They are suffering from depression, anxiety, and other stress related mental health problems.  I always share my story with them. I was able to overcome severe anxiety by using affirmations and making the Word of God personal, along with an awesome support system and a great counselor.

It is very simple. I declare "I Am" statements throughout the day. Here are a few examples:

I Am...

Confident,

Lovable,

At Peace,

Greater Than My Circumstance,

Well,

 Spirit,

Determined,

Joyful,

Capable of Greatness,

The Apple Of God's Eye,

Healed,

Ready For Change,

Open To The Perfect Will Of God.

I then being to read the Bible and personalize scriptures that bring me comfort. Psalm 23:4 was a lifeline during the height of my anxiety battle. The King James Version reads: "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

As I read the verse over and over I made it fit my own life: "If David trusted God while he walked "...through the valley of the shadow of death..." Then I, Sherrica Sims, will fear no evil in this life. I know God is with me; His rod and staff they comfort me. I belong to Him."

Sure enough over time my mind began to clear and my thoughts aligned with what I was declaring and affirming.  I no longer feared life or the opinions of others.  I finally realized depression and anxiety are not identities, but circumstances.  They are changeable not permanent.
